
The following are the leaders and individuals who have been with Black Roofing for many years and who are responsible for the satisfaction of our customers.
Tim Black, President, founded Black Roofing in June of 1975. Tim’s 40+ years of experience in the roofing industry, is reflected in his day-to-day involvement in the company, managing marketing, interacting with the project managers, and problem solving. He has served on the Board of Directors of the National Roofing Contractors Association and is a past-president of the Colorado Roofing Association. A hometown Boulder boy, Tim is active in the local community as well.
Dan Zahtila, Executive Vice President, began his roofing career in 1978 and became part owner of Black Roofing in 2003. He oversees the daily operations of the company and provides management support to the various company department heads. Dan's experience in the Marine Corps and his extensive commercial flat roofing experience have added a more complete dimension to Black Roofing's commercial abilities. He currently serves as President of the Colorado Roofing Association.
Flat Roofing
Ricki Chesney-Giddens joined Black Roofing in 2003 as an Estimator /Project Coordinator for the commercial roofing department. She has over 40 years of construction experience, including 18 years in the roofing industry. She provides support for the project management staff through bid and submittal preparation, LEEDS documentation, contract administration, and accounting.

Brandon DeLozier, Vice President, began his roofing career with Black Roofing in 1996. Brandon was originally hired as a truck driver, but it soon became apparent that he had loftier ambitions. After extensive training in nearly every department, Brandon joined the project management staff in 2002. His customers include general contractors, property owners and managers, public and private entities, and homeowners. He can estimate and manage nearly every type of roofing project, including new construction, re-roofs, and service repairs for both sloped and low-sloped roofing applications.
Projects of Note: University of Colorado Leeds School of Business Expansion and the new ATLAS Building, Aspen Lodge Recreation Center, Comcast Communications, ARC Fairlake, Global Health Care Exchange, Louisville Library, First Presbyterian Church Tower, International Jet Aviation Services, Patterson Elementary School, and the Residence at the Flatirons.
John Zahtila is a Colorado native who joined Black Roofing as an estimator/project manager in 2007. John has been in the commercial roofing industry since 1980. His practical experience in commercial and residential roofing has helped him to broaden his knowledge to estimate and manage all types of roofing projects, including built-up, modified, single-ply, shingles, and liquid-applied coating systems. John is able to provide our customers with practical, innovative, and cost-effective solutions to meet the diversified roofing needs of our clients.

Richard Schafer joined Black Roofing in 2008 as a Project Manager for the commercial roofing department. Richard has 25+ years of experience in roofing, which includes working as a roofer to help pay his way through college. He has the skills and knowledge to estimate and manage all shingle and tile roof applications for new construction, re-roofs, low slope roofing and waterproofing.
Projects of Note: Broadmoor Hotel, CU Science, CU Math, Tivoli Tower, Beaver Creek Lodge, Jennie Smoly Caruthers Bio Technology Building at the University of Colorado, University of Colorado Center for Community, and the University of Colorado JILA expansion.
Jack Garrett is the superintendent for the commercial department. He began his career in roofing as a laborer in 1978. Jack’s practical roof experience and knowledge has helped him develop into an effective and seasoned supervisor of all our low-sloped roofing crews for built-up, modified, and single-ply roofing systems. He supervises material handling, production, and manpower, and maintains and coordinates the start and completion of the roofing projects on multiple job sites.
Service
Zach Trokey started at Black Roofing in 2012 as the Service Department Coordinator. Zach handles service calls, warranty issues, and work schedules.
Alan Nedelea began his career with Black Roofing in 1991; he had previously worked in our Service Department moving to the Flat Department as a Superintendent. His vast knowledge of roofing makes him a valuable asset to Black Roofing.

Phil Ortiz joined Black Roofing as a project manager for the Service Department in 2013. With 25+ years in the commercial roofing industry, Phil has the ability to deliver results for our service-based clients. He has experience with almost all major membrane manufacturers.
Sheet Metal Roofing
Jason Ayres joined Black Roofing in 2005. During his 20 years in the roofing industry, he has spent time as a Regional Operations Manager, Project Manager/Estimator, superintendent, lead foreman, and an apprentice/journeyman sheet metal installer. Currently, Jason is department manager for the sheet metal department. He has knowledge of metal roof, wall products and installation requirements for each system. Jason has experience in design development for new architectural systems.

Scot Hanson is our Sheet Metal Superintendent. He has been with Black Roofing for 9 years and has just over 20 years experience in the industry. Scot is experienced in all aspects of sheet metal wall and roof installation.

Dave Greene joined Black Roofing in 2011 as a Sheet Metal Project Manager/Estimator. During Dave’s nearly 20 years in the roofing industry, he obtained extensive knowledge of most commonly used roof systems and architectural wall cladding systems. Dave has worked in all aspects of roofing, including; installation, project management and estimating, architectural consulting/design review and supervision.

Shingle Roofing
Jamaca Hubbard coordinates all residential and commercial steep roofing projects. After receiving her degree in Facility Management from East Carolina University, she moved to Boulder and worked for a facility management company. She joined Black Roofing as project coordinator for the steep roof department in 2007, and provides assistance with scheduling, bid preparation, contract administration, and customer service.

Pat Sweet started his roofing career with Black Roofing Inc. in 1983 as a shingler on new construction and re-roof projects for 9 years. He moved to our service department for another 4 years working closely with CU Facilities Maintenance. Now a Project Manager for our steep department, Pat has 30+ years experience in the roofing industry and is a CertainTeed Shingle Quality Specialist.

Waterproofing
Karl Grotluschen is the Operations Manager for Black Roofing, and also a Project Manager for our waterproofing and flat departments. He joined the Black Roofing staff in 2007. After graduating from Colorado State University with a degree in Construction Management, Karl went to work for a large roofing company in California for 5 years. Karl has the skills and technology to estimate and manage all types of fluid-applied waterproofing applications, both for commercial and residential use.

Accounting/Operations Support
Jill Hoglund has been with Black Roofing as Controller since April 1999. She has 28 years experience in the Construction industry, 10 specific to roofing. Her responsibilities include company financials, benefit administration, banking, insurance and account receivables. She also provides management support for the President and Vice President.
Caitlin Hoglund began her career with Black Roofing in July 2011 as a temporary Administrative Assistant. Caitlin enjoyed her experience with Black Roofing so much she decided to stay and assumed the position of Accounting Coordinator. Her responsibilities include payroll and accounts payable. Caitlin holds a Bachelor of Social Work degree from Colorado State University.
Nancy Hylbert joined Black Roofing in August of 2010 as an Administrative Assistant. With her extensive background in customer service, she is the first point of contact with Black Roofing. Nancy provides administrative support to the entire team at Black Roofing as well as assisting Lacey Trokey in the service department.
Safety Programs
Daniel Krus started with Black Roofing Inc. in 2009 as a Shop Hand/Delivery Driver, while attending Front Range Community College. During his first year Daniel demonstrated potential and drive for a more challenging position. After a brief stint as warehouse manager, he moved into the field of safety. After receiving extensive and ongoing training through OSHA compliance classes, Daniel soon became the Safety Coordinator for Black Roofing Inc. Today Daniel oversees all aspects of safety for Black Roofing Inc.’s employees, keeping them up to date on; First Aid/CPR/AED. American Red Cross and Medic First Aid, DOT regulations, the 1910 standards (general industry), 1926 standards (construction industry). He is qualified to provide most training needs.
