Black Roofing & Waterproofing is a commercial and residential roofing and waterproofing company that has operated out of Boulder, Colorado since 1975.

Tim Black began his roofing career in 1965 as a student at Boulder High School and continued roofing as a student at the University of Colorado to help pay his college tuition. After several years in the field, Tim started Black Roofing in 1975, catering primarily to residential customers.

Over the years, Black Roofing gradually began to emphasize commercial roofing and waterproofing projects–the more complex, the better. In 2020, Black Roofing Inc. became Black Roofing & Waterproofing still specializing in the multifaceted projects, requiring all phases of commercial low-slope roofing, architectural sheet metal and specialized steep slope applications, waterproofing plaza decks, balconies patios and foundation walls. Three of Black Roofing’s most complex projects were The Denver Art Museum, The Clyfford Still Museum, and the Museum of Contemporary Art. Both the Denver Art Museum and the Museum of Contemporary Art won national recognition for their innovative roofing solutions and safety. Since 1975, Black Roofing has installed the roofs on 45 buildings at the University of Colorado, many of the City of Boulder facilities, and the majority of the Boulder Community Health properties, including the new campus at Arapahoe and Foothills Parkway.

Today, Black Roofing & Waterproofing continues to pursue projects that are challenging, innovative and that serve the front range communities.
