In 1975 Black Roofing formed with the idea that Boulder County needed a roofing company that was both conscientious and knowledgeable. Black Roofing has since grown to become one of the largest roofing firms in Colorado. With over 90 employees and averaging nearly 2000 jobs a year, we’ve built our reputation on service and quality. Our estimators, superintendents and foremen are trained and educated in-house. Throughout the years, Black Roofing, Inc. has become an approved applicator for almost all roofing systems. Our status in the roofing business comes through years of practical experience, financial stability and the consistent demonstration of quality workmanship.

Staff

  • Tim Black, President and founder of company.
    Created the company in June of 1975 and incorporated Black Roofing in September of 1975. Tim has over 35 years of roofing experience. He was President of Colorado Roofing Association from 1997 – 1998, Vice President of the association in 1996 and has sat on the Board from 1994 – 2000. Tim handles the day to day management of the company and creates and oversees all company policies. He still estimates, project manages and oversees all scheduling for his jobs.

  • Brian Kelly, Vice-President since 1995.
    He was hired with the company as a built up roofer in 1979 and has 30 years of roofing experience. He is the head of the Steep division including shingles, tile, metal and staff.

  • Dan Zahtila, Vice-President since 1996.
    Dan and has over 30 years of roofing experience. He is the head of the Flat division and the Service department.
  • Curt Middleton has been the Sheet Metal Department Manager since 2002.
    He was hired with Black Roofing, Inc. as the Superintendent in 1995. Curt has over 20 years of roofing experience. His current responsibilities include, estimating projects, project manager, department manager, coordinate metal wall and roof panel projects including purchasing, scheduling man power and equipment and designing when required. His most notable projects with Black Roofing, Inc. include South Boulder Recreation Center, Majestic Metals, Allan Residence, Curtis Park, Eagle County Airport, Vail Cascade Resort and Valley Bank. With other companies he worked on the DIA Fire Stations, Denver Water Board, Conifer high School, Larimer County Court House, Denver Courthouse and Annex Building. He is currently on the Colorado Roofing Associations Education Committee and a past member of the Construction Specification Institute.

  • Steve Riale was hired as a laborer in 2002 and quickly promoted to Project Manager in 2003. He has over 10 years of roofing experience. His current responsibilities are estimating, sales, project coordinating, customer service and scheduling. His most notable projects include the Whittier Square Re-roof with Malarkey Legacy shingles and the Wise Residence with Decra Tile.

  • Brandon Delozier was hired as a driver in 1996.
    He has since become a Project Manager and has 7 years of roofing experience. His responsibilities are project managing all of his jobs including, estimating, sales, project coordinating, customer service and scheduling. His most notable projects include the 1st Presbyterian Church Tower, International Jet Aviation Services (Arapahoe County Airport), Valley View Christian Church in Douglas County, Patterson Elementary School and the Residence at the Flatirons.

  • Gerry Schmidt joined Black Roofing, Inc. as a Project Manager in 2003.
    He has over 30 years experience in the roofing industry. He estimates new and re-roof, commercial and residential, steep and low slope projects. Gerry coordinates all of his own jobs, including set-up, execution and close-outs. His most notable projects with B.R.I. include Erie High School, with past companies he was with the city of Denver Emergency Services, including D.I.A., Lions Eye Clinic at Fitzsimmons, C.U. Porter Bioscience in Boulder, Jefferson County Open Space office building, Evergreen Fire Station, Gates Warehouse Complex (which is 5 buildings at 4.2 miles of square feet), Office Depot Warehouse, and Larimer County Courthouse.

  • Dennis Precht has been the Service Manager since 2000.
    He started with Black Roofing, Inc. in 1983 as a laborer and has over 20 years of experience in the roofing industry. His current responsibilities are to supervise and schedule the entire operations of the service department, including estimating, customer service, ordering supplies and overseeing all staff.

  • Keith Cooper has been the Superintendent for our slope division since 2000.
    He started with Black Roofing, Inc. in 1990 as a shingler and has 25 years of roofing experience. Keith supervises the field crews, ensuring the job is done to code and as contracted. He is quality control and inspects all the jobs at completion. He fixes leaks, wind damage and finishes roofs that were short material. His most notable projects include Folsom Field, The condos at Deer Creek, Redstone Ridge, Lakehurst, Fox Ridge and Dakota Ridge, and Our Lady of Loreto Catholic Parish.

  • Scot Hanson is the Sheet Metal Superintendent since 2002.
    He started with the company a year prior to that as a Foreman. He has 13 years of roofing experience. Scot supervises the field crews, measures jobs and problem solves. His most notable projects with Black Roofing, Inc. include University of Colorado’s Folsom Stadiums Addition and with past companies Xilinx and Sterling Correctional Facility.

  • Alan Nedelea started with Black Roofing, Inc. in 1991 as a laborer.
    In 2003 he was promoted to the Superintendent Commercial Department. He has over 12 years of roofing experience. Alan is involved in roof design, material handling, supervision or production, scheduling and customer service. His most notable projects include Our Lady of Loreto Church and the University of Colorado’s Folsom Stadiums Addition.

  • Ricki Chesney joined Black Roofing, Inc. in 2003 as a project coordinator in the commercial department.
    She has over thirty years of experience in the construction industry, including fifteen years in roofing. Her experience includes project coordination for new construction, re-roofs, commercial, residential, metal roofing and service work.

  • Angel Gonzales is the Project Coordinator for our slope division.

  • Dawn Minch is the Service Coordinator.
    She joined Black Roofing, Inc. in 2001 and heavily assists Dennis Precht. She schedules all repair jobs as well as coordinates the technician’s schedules. She handles customer service for our service department and is responsible for writing proposals, billing and tracking all repair jobs.
